| The
communication network (the Internet) commercialized in the 1990s,
unified communication itself on a worldwide level instantaneously.
If the twentieth century was a century of oppositions between
countries, cultures and ideologies, the twenty-first century is
surely to be called the age of globalization where the world becomes
one. This means a world where people and enterprise cross the boundaries
of countries and cultures to a place of mutual exchange. This requires
harmonious communication based upon mutual dependency.
The term "translation" means continuing respect for
diversity of languages and cultures, overcoming these differences,
deepening values of cultural equivalencies, and creating new linguistic
expressions. This is Babel’s philosophy. The Age of Global Communication
of the 21st century is also the Age of Translation.
Babel
has sent translation professionals out into the world to meet the
needs of the times, and has established the BABEL UNIVERSITY Professional
School of Translation in the state of Hawaii to develop translators
for the 21st century. Babel utilizes an online educational system
based on the Internet. Using the 5 Literacies as its foundation,
the school offers a multi-faceted program based on a framework of
industrial-educational cooperation.
BABEL UNIVERSITY Professional School of Translation is a school
where professionals to future enhance their practical professional
skills. Graduates who complete the program are awarded the MST,
Master of Science in Translation, as a proof that they have acquired
the necessary skills as a translator to work in the United States
and Japan. In the future, we are hoping to widen the scope of the
MST so that it will be recognized around the world.
